Hakuro Nishiki

Salix integra

Unopened catkins of Hakuro Nishiki (salix integra) dappled willow shrub.. (Joanne McKinnon)When I shop for plants, I take several things into consideration.
First, I check the hardiness, is it going to need winter protection?
What about soil needs, is the plant a heavy feeder?
Does it have a good disease resistance?
Will it need special pruning?

When my husband shops for plants, he has one requirement.
Will it look nice?

The Hakuro Nishiki dappled willow shrub is one of his.
It will eventually border a duck pond.
The shrub is also very hardy and can take some heavy pruning.
When left shrubby, it can serve as a cover for small birds.

What is the most important is that  we both love the garden.

More Irises

Bðtanus

Today I received and planted a Kind Hearted tall bearded iris.
They are listed as Novelty Bearded Iris  on Bðtanus.
In the same order, I also received Freckled Geisha (I. ensata), I may keep this one in a pot for a few weeks.
Both irises are still available.
All were well packaged and healthy.

Aranjuez

Narcissus

Aranjuez, is now in the Encyclopedia in the Bulbs section.
This is an older variety from Warnaar & Co of Holland, Netherlands.
It was introduced before 1932.

I planted several bulbs in different locations.
Some are almost done blooming while others are just getting started.
This helps prolong the blooming period.
Some of the daffodils already in the Encyclopedia need updating, and they will be once I sort out all the new information.
