What I’ve learned so far.
Botanical name: Hygrocybe coccinea (Schaeff.) P. Kumm.
They are gilled so they belong to the order, agaricales.
According to NBNatlas they are a familiar in unimproved grassland.
In my garden, it makes them indicator plants.
Usually, I find them only in the forest. Finding a few in a flowerbed means the soil is too lean for irises and daylilies. The lilac doesn’t seem to mind.
